Each year thousands of young people gather together to celebrate with musical acts as big as the Jonas Brothers, speakers as famous as Shaquille O’Neal, and inspiring stories from the likes of Al Gore, Barbara Bush, and even Minnesota’s own Mark Dayton. These acts, stories, and celebrations come together under the name We Day, and are meant to empower young people to act globally and locally.
We Day is an initiative of Free the Children, an international organization that works with schools across the world to promote charity and education with their “We Act” Program. Schools using the “We Act” Program are required to commit their students or student groups to a minimum of one global, and one local action. Students can support social initiatives that are run by Free the Children, or they can do work within their own communities and global communities of their choosing. We Act schools then receive We Day tickets to the celebration events each year to give out to participating youth.
The We Day initiative began in Toronto, with only one We Day celebration event, and has now grown to a worldwide program, with 15 large scale We Day Celebrations in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Last year, Minneapolis held one of the largest We Day events in the country.
WE Day Minnesota is just around the corner and Free the Children, the organizers of the event, are calling on you to help bring WE Day to life! As it takes hundreds of volunteers to put on this one-of-a-kind event, they invite you and your friends, family members and colleagues to join our team and the movement of our time.
What is WE Day?
WE Day brings together world-renowned speakers and performers with tens of thousands of youth to celebrate and inspire a generation of young people leading local and global change. This is held at the Xcel Energy Center.
Why Volunteer?
The success of WE Day is largely dependent on remarkable volunteers giving their time and energy to help our staff execute the event. Give back to your community in a fun and meaningful way, support young people leading local and global change, and celebrate and inspire this generation’s shift from ‘me’ to ‘we’.
