Did you know that only 15% of Americans are prepared for an emergency or natural disaster? Regardless of where you live, knowing what to do before, during and after a disaster is an important part of being prepared, and getting prepared can be a fun and educational experience for families, kids, employees and volunteers through the Good & Ready program.  With the potential for hurricanes, tornadoes and summer storms throughout much of the country, now is the perfect time to get Good & Ready.

On Friday, August 16th at the Mall of America, Twin Cities-residents will assemble 400 disaster preparedness kits to take home for their families.  The event is presented by The Allstate Foundation in partnership with Good & Ready, a collaborative emergency preparedness initiative led by Points of Light and organized locally by HandsOn Twin Cities. While supplies last, the kits will include a hand-crank flashlight, water bottle, dust mask, garbage bags and hand sanitizing wipes, among other items.

Good & Ready is a year-round online and on-the-ground emergency preparedness initiative brought to you by Points of Light, Ready.gov, the American Red Cross and the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) with support from The Allstate Foundation and Target. The program creates online engagement and on-the-ground action – creating in-home and in-community disaster readiness kits, preparing homes and families, helping prepare neighbors and getting trained to assist with disaster response and recovery.
